Sponsors
Fáilte Ireland
Failte Ireland, as part of their strategy towards securing the Solheim Cup for 2011 and in order to build the profile of female golfers in Ireland, are destination sponsors of the Ladies Irish Open for five years, between 2008-2012.
In a welcome message for the 2009 Ladies Irish Open, Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, said 'I am delighted to welcome you to Ireland and back to Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links for the 2009 Ladies Irish Open. I have no doubt that this year’s competitors will enjoy the challenge which this course presents and that they will provide days of exciting golf for avid spectators.
Ireland has much to offer as a golfing destination. Year on year Ireland has played host to world class golfing events such as the 3 Irish Open, the Irish Seniors Open, the European Open and of course the successful Ryder Cup in 2006. With ladies golf offering good potential for growth in terms of overseas visitor numbers to Ireland, exciting events such as this and the globally recognised Solheim Cup - scheduled to take place in Ireland in 2011, - will greatly enable us to raise awareness of Ireland as not only a premier golfing destination, but a holiday destination of choice.
Fáilte Ireland, our National Tourism Development Authority, recognises the importance of golf to our tourism industry. It is supporting the AIB Ladies Irish Open once again this year through the Government’s International Sports Tourism Initiative.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all competitors and spectators, from home and abroad, particularly those who are visiting Ireland for the first time, and look forward to a successful Championship'.
